In trying to find my posting rhythm on this site I’ve decided to try a fun series called Medication Monday.
Every Monday I will share about a new medication, starting here with the more common ones that you will see in the clinical setting. If there is one you would like me to make a post for, let me know in the comments below. I thought this would be most helpful for those studying in school (especially when it comes to making those medication cards!) however it’s good for seasoned professionals to brush up on their pharmacology knowledge too.
Key areas that these posts will cover include:
- drug names (generic and brand)
- classifications
- indications
- mechanism of actions
- common adult doses
- contraindications
- side effects
- nursing considerations
My hope is that in covering medications, you, the reader, will be able to understand a little better how the medication works in the body and how you can apply it in the clinical setting for your patients. Also it’s good practice to have a foundation of pharmacology knowledge because medications are a serious task to implement. (No pressure! 😉 ) They are meant to help but they can also hurt if given incorrectly.
So let’s dive in to pharmacology! Medication Mondays, here we come!
