Using writing that is free of the writer’s bias is important in scholarly papers to promote inclusivity. It is not acceptable to imply the writer’s own personal beliefs or imply biased assumptions against other people based on age, disability, gender, racial or ethnic identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, participation in research, or some other personal factors (ex. marital status, immigration status, religion, etc.) (APA, 2020, p. 131). This chapter will help to decrease biases, implied or stated, in writing scholarly papers.
Key Points:
- General guidelines for reducing bias
- Reducing bias by topic
