If you’ve ever been in nursing school you’ve been introduced to the world of how to professionally write a paper. Most nursing programs that I’ve heard about (from other nurses) use the American Psychological Association (APA) style of writing. They have produced a publication manual, updated last in 2020, to provide students and professionals with a guide on how to write a scientific paper that presents their scholarly communication in a clear, concise, and inclusive way.
The key components of a paper that APA focuses on are specified below with links to further detail and examples.
- Ethical, legal, and professional standards in publishing
- Paper elements and format
- Journal article reporting standards
- Writing style and grammar
- Bias-free language guidelines
- Mechanics of style
- Tables and figures
- In text citations
- References list
I’ve included a link to my APA Template for you to check out and purchase if you’re interested. It’s a pre-formatted paper in the new 7th edition style that you can edit to make it your own.
