Drug Scheduling per the DEA
Schedule I
Drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Examples include: heroin, LSD, marijuana, ecstasy, methaqualone, and peyote.
Schedule II
Drugs with high potential for abuse with the possibility of severe psychological or physical dependence. Examples include: hydrocodone (Vicodin), cocaine, methamphetamine, methadone, morphine, hydromorphone (Dilaudid), meperidine (Demerol), oxycodone (OxyContin), fentanyl, Dexedrine, Adderall, and Ritalin.
Schedule III
Drugs with moderate to low potential for psychological or physical dependence. Abuse potential is more than schedule IV but less than schedule I or II. Examples include: Tylenol with codeine, ketamine, anabolic steroids, and testosterone.
Schedule IV
Drugs with low potential for dependence and low risk for abuse. Examples include: Xanax, Darvon, Darvocet, Valium, Ativan, Ambien, Phenobarbital, and Tramadol.
Schedule V
Drugs with lower potential for abuse than schedule IV with limited quantities of certain narcotics. Examples include: Robitussin with codeine, Lomotil, and Lyrica.
